samantha appleton’S EPHEMERA PARTY

June 7, 2025

“In my work, I have dealt with a lot of "stuff" - the remainders of people's lives and interests that others are forced to sort through in their absence. So I've thought a lot about things and their value - both monetarily and emotionally and where that begins and ends. It was amusing to look at myself and discover these small things that I've kept over the years that could be trash, and yet they do hold meaning for me.”

“I enjoyed thinking about what I most wanted to share. I have a lot of things to choose from.”

“It was nerve racking but also fun. I began to look at all the objects around the house in a different way. What stories do they tell?”

“Thoughtful, detective like, fun. However I am not at home, so the ephemera I have on hand is very limited, and I am someone who tends to be nostalgic about five minutes ago, and so it was strange to not have access to a lifetime of ephemera.”

“It was difficult! Once I discovered a big trove of potentials, I really had to reel it in.”
